An excellent bedding straw, making a warm comfortable bed for all livestock and horses. Its relatively hard stem means it doesn't flatten quickly and allows free drainage. Chopped, it can also be used as a source of fibre and rumen stimulation.
The Farmer's Choice: a great straw for both feed and bedding. Softer than wheat and makes a fluffier bed, ideal for lambing sheds. Not always the most suitable for horses as the ears in the straw can be prickly and cause skin irritations.
High quality and the most absorbent straw compared to wheat and barley, which can make it heavier to muck out.
Free from Astrokerb herbicide. Available chopped or baled. Rape has a high crude cellulose content, making it an ideal source of rumen stimulation for cattle. It also has a high moisture absorption rate and binds ammonia making it a suitable bedding for poultry, horses and cattle.
A long straw, containing the seed heads which may cause irritation if consumed by horses. Makes good bedding for all other livestock.
A hard straw that can be used as feed or bedding for cattle. A good alternative to wheat straw.
A good green hay full of a variety of natural grasses. A great feed for cattle, sheep and other stock. Organic grass available on request.
Our seed hay is Westerwold Rye Grass - a clean, top quality 'hard' hay with a high protein content. The hay sample is fairly coarse and stemmy with good energy values, making it a favoured hay by race yards.
A single variety seed hay that is very palatable to all animals. A popular equine forage as it is high in fibre, but low in sugar and slightly lower in protein than Westerwold, making it suitable for horses that suffer from laminitis or cushings, as well as native breeds of cattle and sheep.
Made from top quality pasture. Suitable for cattle and sheep. Can be delivered or collected in 4ft round bales.
These are the small two string square bales of around 20 - 25kg weight (hay heavier, straw lighter).
30 × 40 × 100 cm
Typically 1.2m / 4ft width and generally 1.2m diameter for hay and straw, though straw can be baled up to 6' diameter.
1.2 × 1.2m (4ft round)
Though referred to as square, they are actually rectangular. They can be made in various lengths, typically 8' for straw, 7' for hay, and around 4' for haylage/silage which is wrapped. However, like conventional bales, they are in biscuits like a sliced loaf so once the strings are cut, a slab can be carried or stacked in a barrow to feed.
Sizes shown w × h (cm) weights vary by crop, moisture and bale density (for guidance only).
80 × 70 (D4000 four string bale)
